Brief:
The imaginative use of exterior colour changers marked the opening of the "Lowry Designer Outlet" in Salford Quays, Manchester - a project undertaken by Orbit Developments (Manchester) Limited. The exterior and interior lighting scheme for the project was devised by Into Lighting Design's Northern Studio in Nottingham.
The exterior installation utilises thirty-two Martin Professional Exterior 200 colour changers. These were chosen due to their versatility, compactness and wide beam characteristics. The fixtures use a powerful 150W discharge lamp and are rated at IP65 for outdoor use. Control is provided via DMX using Grand-Master Flash V4, a PC based lighting control programme, produced by London based company, Artistic Licence. This was programmed by A.C. to provide an ever-changing and dramatic ripple of colour round the exterior of the designer outlet and features a special red and white sequence which is activated when England football matches are being played at Old Trafford.
