A.C. Special Projects employs latest colour changing and effects technology

Due to the diverse variety of locations, A.C. Lighting Special Projects division are regularly faced with new challenges when integrating specialised lighting techniques into architectural installations. A recent project of particular merit was the installation of an Irideon 'intelligent' lighting solution into a distinctive property.

The owner of the private leisure facility, inspired by author Robert Louis Stevenson since early childhood, has adopted visual references to literary works throughout the building. The client had previously explored the option of using colour changers, as both the interior and light oak used in the building's construction offered the potential for artistic lighting. A highly intelligent creative lighting system, typically associated with theatre applications, was the response to the design brief.

With the recent addition of a further twenty fixtures, this installation now employs a total of 46 ETC Irideon AR50 Automated Wash Luminaires - the largest number installed to date on a single UK project.

The AR50 features an innovative radial colour changer, producing exceptionally smooth colour crossfades throughout the entire spectrum, thus enabling totally seamless colour changes. Featuring saturated colour washes and automated pan and tilt functions, these fixtures allow gentle timings for both colour change and movement. Housing a powerful 50W discharge lamp with an expected life of 3000 hours, combined with proven technology, the AR50 reduces maintenance requirements to the minimum.

All AR50's are linked to the Irideon Master Control Processor and interface with the building's generic lighting, creating a truly intelligent lighting system. Moving light functions are controlled using a variety of pre-programmed sequences, which are produced on a PC using Irideon Composer™ software, and stored in the MCP for selection as required. Having an in-built clock and calendar, the Irideon MCP can be programmed to provide completely automated sequences for many years, eliminating the need for regular user input. With the ability to control up to 62 Irideon fixtures as well as a full universe of 512 DMX channels, the Irideon MCP still leaves scope for future expansion of this system if required.
